Is okay to date this guy after my friend and him were going out?

so I think I kinda like this guy. I have known him for a while and never really though of him as a boyfriend. We didn't talk alot but this year at lunch we started to talk more. Now school is out for us and he is is Belgium visiting family. We send alot of messages back and forth on Myspace. A couple messages ago we were talking about what we were going to be doing the rest of the summer. At the end of one of his messages he said "other then that i really dono what im going to do the rest of the summer. but i was wondering if you wern't too busy this summer we could hang out some time. if you want or i could call you some time." now if I'm not mistaken..he's interested lol. I think it would be fun to hangout with him, but I've never really done that with any guy..I've never actually met a guy outside of school before..so I'd be super nervous. lol today his message was like this, "ok thats cool we could do something after all of that mayhem. lol im going to paris this wednesday ..cont.>
