Will newer processors work with my motherboard?

That will not support the new Core 2 Duo. Upgrading to a 3 Ghz P4 won't make much of a difference. At this point, if you want to upgrade, your only choice is to upgrade motherboard (since it's a HP more likely a new case also) and CPU.
