Gun or needle, which is better?

i had my ears pierced with a gun in claires three weeks ago and it went fine...so far but since then i have read about how piercing guns are really dangerous. surely needles are just as bad? and more painfull? anyone have any true stories about peircing gun disasters? or had their ears done with a needle??
